We were all very sore from our seven and a half hour hike on Wednesday. We slept in a little and went down to the visitors center at Guadalupe Mountain National Park. The small museum gave us a lot of information about the rocks and structures we saw on the hike. We than sat in on a ranger lead talk about
rattlesnakes. We learned some interesting things about the snakes anatomy and habits. Most importantly we learned what to do if we see one on a trial. Adults are defensive strikers and only want to strike things they can eat. They can only strike half the distance of their body so it is easy to stay out of strike range. You can out walk them, but they wont pursue you any way a person is too big. So the best thing to do is not step on them and you will be fine.

We moved a short one hour drive to Whites City, New Mexico to a campground outside of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Half of the group did a little shopping and the others caught up on Internet stuff that we had been without for over two weeks. Tomorrow we will explore the caverns.
