Day 36 April 9

Finished the repairs to the camper this morning, and then hit the road headed for Fort Stockton, TX. We learned to double check the mileage when planning the day...the GPS said it would be a 3.5 hour trip, but we did not know what it knew...that the speed limit is 80mph! Suffice it to say, we did not travel at that speed pulling the camper through the Blue Mountains! The landscape really changed over the course of the drive. We started to see oil pumps working away on the sides of the highway. Vegetation got much more sparse as well as shorter (nothing taller than 10feet) There are wide open vistas where you can see rainstorms that are miles and miles away over the rocky plateaus. At one point, there were hundreds of windmills on the horizon everywhere around us.

When we reached Fort Stockton, it was about 5pm, and we stopped at an RV park on a hill with an amazing view of surrounding hay farms and pecan groves. Anna even spotted a couple of Road Runners! (sorry, no pics...they were too fast! Lol) Then we were treated to some tremendous thunderstorms as the evening went on. We watched them from miles away for hours, until they finally reached us at about 11pm. What fun riding that out in the camper, we could really feel the wind and thunder!
